Careers

A small house where the work is visible.

At our size there is nowhere for a trade to hide. What you execute is what the firm executes — which is either the appeal or the reason not to apply.

What it is like

Fewer layers, more exposure.

A junior at a major house may spend two years on one grade in one region. Here you will see the whole chain — origin, specification, compliance, finance, freight, documentation, discharge — because there is nobody else to hand it to.

That suits people who want range and are comfortable being accountable early. It suits people less well if they want a narrowly defined mandate and a deep bench behind them.

We hire across trading, operations, compliance, logistics and finance, in every jurisdiction we operate in.

What we look for

Four things, in this order.

Market view comes last on this list deliberately. It is the most talked about and the least reliable predictor of whether someone can actually close and deliver a cargo.

Technical literacy

Knowing what a specification means and what happens at the receiving plant when it is missed. The ability to read a CoQ and see the problem before the surveyor does.

Operational discipline

Laycans, documentary credits, inspection protocols and demurrage clocks do not forgive approximation. Precision here is worth more than flair.

Compliance instinct

Recognising the trade that should not be done, and being willing to say so when it is already commercially agreed and everyone wants it to work.

Market view

A structural understanding of why material moves — geography, seasonality, refinery economics, freight. Useful, but only on top of the other three.

Open roles

How to approach us.

We do not run a permanent vacancy board. Roles open against desk requirement rather than to a hiring calendar, and most of our hires arrive through direct approach.

Send a CV with a short note on the desk you want and the products you know. If there is nothing open we will say so rather than leave you waiting on a process.

NJORD does not charge candidates any fee at any stage of recruitment and does not use recruitment agents who do. If you are asked to pay a fee by someone claiming to represent NJORD, it is not us — please report it to [email protected].

Enquiries

Every enquiry is answered by the desk that handles it.

Send the product, quantity, delivery basis, destination and timing. We revert with availability, an indication and the documentation that accompanies it. Specifications are released once we know who we are speaking with.
